Peterson attorney says Stacy talked to friend about leaving Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Drew Peterson's lawyer is claiming he's found new evidence backing Peterson's story that his missing wife, Stacy, left on her own. Attorney Joel Brodsky says the new information was used as evidence by the Illinois State Police when they applied for a search warrant for Peterson's home. Brodsky released the information, which he says comes from a police interview with a junior college friend of Stacy Peterson's. The name of the student is blacked out, but the material reads, "according to (blank) a fellow student from joliet Junior College with Stacy Peterson, Stacy complained to (blank) over drinks after class on October 27, 2007, at approximately 4:30 p. m. that she wanted out of her marriage. "(Blank) suggested to her at that time that she should take the cash money and not use her credit cards to preclude being found. She responded that if she was to leave, she would leave in the morning when drew was asleep."
The alleged conversation occurred the day before Stacy Peterson disappeared. The warrant for the house search was issued last October. The state police say they're not familiar with the document and will look into it. "There's no reason for this man to lie. He's not a friend of Drew, doesn't know Drew. He's an acquaintance of Stacy's," Brodsky said. Drew Peterson said Wednesday the hidden truth is starting to come out. And Stacy Peterson's relatives say they're not surprised she would make statements like those in the document because she was looking for a way out of her marriage.

Resolution Near For Stacy Peterson & Kathleen Savio Cases?
Oct. 23, 2008
With the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Stacy Peterson coming up next week, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow says the investigation into her disappearance has been "highly productive" and he expects a resolution to her case or that of the murder of Kathleen Savio "in the near future."
Peterson has been missing since Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, when she left her Bolingbrook home. Her husband, Drew Peterson, a former Bolingbrook police sergeant, has denied any involvement in her disappearance, as well as the death of his third wife, Savio, whose body was found in a bathtub on March 1, 2004. Her death was initially ruled an accidental drowning but later classified as a homicide.
The Illinois State Police continue to conduct "exhaustive" investigations into Stacy Peterson's disappearance and Savio's murder, a release from Glasgow's office said.
The Will County State’s Attorney’s office reopened the investigation into Savio’s death, and after filing a petition with the court to exhume her remains, a board certified forensic pathologist confirmed Glasgow's assertion that her death was a homicide.
A special grand jury -- convened in November 2007 to hear testimony and evidence regarding Stacy Peterson’s disappearance and Savio’s murder -- is still receiving evidence, the release said.
The investigations into both Stacy Peterson’s disappearance and Savio’s murder "have been highly productive," Glasgow said. "I fully expect there to be a resolution in at least one of these investigations in the near future."
Glasgow also said the investigations prompted him to propose a new law that will enable state prosecutors to "use a murder victim’s cries for help as evidence at trial to convict her brutal killer."
The legislation, which will become law in November, will enable prosecutors to bring previously inadmissible evidence to trial "to ensure abusive murderers cannot profit from their wrongdoing," Glasgow said. It will apply to crimes committed before its enactment, provisions recently affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Glasgow said his office is "committed to making certain that justice is served for (the families and friends of Peterson and Savio)."
"My office continues to work hard to assist the Illinois State Police in advancing both investigations under intense national and local media coverage.
"We have done our best to respond to legitimate media queries without jeopardizing the integrity of these investigations or the secrecy of the Special Grand Jury. While this has proven difficult at times, I respect the professionalism displayed by the press during these investigations."

Drew Peterson meets with dads rights lawyer Jeffery Leving
Suspect in disappearance of wife Stacy Peterson talks possible divorce
Nov. 18, 2008
Former Bolingbrook Police Sgt. Drew Peterson has met with Jeffery Leving, a Chicago attorney who specializes in the rights of divorced fathers, to talk about a possible divorce from his fourth wife, Stacy, who has been missing since Oct. 28, 2007.
"I'll confirm that Drew Peterson did have a consultation with Jeff Leving," said Joel Brodsky, Peterson's criminal defense attorney.
Peterson, 54, is a suspect in his wife's disappearance, which police have labeled a "potential homicide." Authorities are also reinvestigating the 2004 death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
In Illinois, willful desertion or abandonment for at least one year is grounds for a divorce. Brodsky said Peterson met with Leving after the one-year anniversary of Stacy Peterson's disappearance. Derek Armstrong, author of "Drew Peterson Exposed," reported the meeting Monday.
"I can confirm that he was in my office," Leving said, but he declined to comment further.
Peterson referred all questions to Brodsky. In the past, he has maintained that his wife, then 23, left him for someone else.
He has also said that he wants to sell his house in Bolingbrook, which draws media and onlookers, and move away to protect his children. Recently, tensions between Peterson and his neighbors have also started to boil over.

FOND DU LAC, Wis.---- The Fond du Lac County sheriff says the body found there by hunters nearly two weeks ago is probably not the remains of a suburban Chicago policeman's missing wife.
Sheriff Mick Fink says the chances are very slim that the remains are 23-year-old Stacy Peterson of Bolingbrook, Illinois, who vanished about a year ago. But he says detectives from there have called to compare notes.
Peterson's husband, 54-year-old Drew Peterson, a former Bolingbrook police sergeant, is a suspect in his wife's disappearance. He has not been charged and has repeatedly said he thinks his wife ran off with another man and is alive.
Fink says at least 18 police agencies have contacted his department to inquire about the remains but there are no good leads on the woman's identity.

Drew Peterson Gets Engaged While Still Married to Missing Wife Wednesday, December 17, 2008
The ex-cop who is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife and whose third wife died suspiciously in a bathtub is planning to walk down the aisle for a fifth time.
Drew Peterson, 54, is engaged again, his lawyer and publicist confirmed Wednesday to FOXNews.com.
Though Peterson is still married to his fourth wife, Stacy, who was 23 when she disappeared last year, he has found a new 23-year-old fiancée, he told "Drew Peterson Exposed" author Derek Armstrong Tuesday.
"The kids have met her," said Armstrong. "They like her and they know about this engagement."
Peterson has two young children, Anthony, 6, and Lacy, 4, with Stacy Peterson. The missing mom's family contends she is dead.
"Oh my God, I’m speechless," Pam Bosco, a spokeswoman for Stacy Peterson's family told FOXNews.com when informed of Drew Peterson's engagement. "History repeats itself, so I imagine that that’s the same situation he had before: He’d be involved with somebody when he was getting rid of the one before."

"History repeats itself, so I imagine that that’s the same situation he had before: He’d be involved with somebody when he was getting rid of the one before."
Armstrong said the new fiancée, whom Peterson refused to identify, lives within 15 minutes of Peterson's Bolingbrook, Ill., home. He said the couple have been dating about four months. Lawyer Joel Brodsky and publicist Glenn Selig did not identify the woman either.
Selig said the engagement happened "sometime within the last couple of days."
A sticking point for Peterson is that he is currently married.
"This is not uncommon for Drew," said Selig. "When he was married to Kathleen still, he was in the process of divorcing Kathleen when he proposed to Stacy. He’s done this before and, you know, he seems very happy."
Earlier this year, Peterson met with high-profile Chicago attorney Jeffery M. Leving, a lawyer in the Elian Gonzalez case, to see what his rights to a split might be.
Leving told FOXNews.com that Peterson had not yet filed for divorce.
Desertion for at least one year is grounds for divorce under Illinois law -- though Peterson, as the divorce petitioner, would have to show he wasn't at fault for causing his wife to leave, Leving said.
Peterson has been at the center of the investigation into the whereabouts of his wife, who vanished on Oct. 28, 2007.
After Stacy's disappearance, the body of Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio, was exhumed, and her 2004 bathtub drowning was re-labeled a homicide.
Earlier this year, Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow issued a statement about the Savio and Stacy Peterson cases, indicating that a special grand jury is still weighing evidence in both.
"I fully expect there to be a resolution in at least one of these investigations in the near future," Glasgow said.
Stacy Peterson's family is pinning its hopes on that resolution.
"You’ve just got to stay focused on the investigation and hope that as the Illinois state prosecutor said, that they’ll have [it] resolved soon," Bosco said.

Stepbrother Says He Thinks He Helped Drew Peterson Dispose of Wife's Body Mar. 10, 2009
Drew Peterson's stepbrother fears that he had a hand in the murder of the former Illinois police sergeant's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson — telling a Chicago-area newspaper that he helped Drew Peterson dispose of a blue barrel that may have contained Stacy's remains.
Stacy Peterson disappeared in October 2007. Her husband has been the focus of a police and grand jury investigation, but he never has been charged.
Thomas Morphey, the stepbrother, told the Herald News that he thinks Stacy, 23, was in the blue barrel that he helped remove from the Petersons' home in Bolingbrook, Ill., and put into a car.
Beforehand, Morphey told the Herald News, Peterson, 55, had come to his home to take him to a nearby store where Peterson supposedly had set up an interview for him. But instead, the two went to a park, where a conversation led him to believe Peterson was planning to murder Stacy's boyfriend, Morphey said.
We went to that park to discuss Stacy cheating on him, and he had to take care of the problem,” Morphey told the newspaper. "I didn’t think for a minute he was going to try to kill her.”
Peterson started questioning Morphey's love for him and asked if he would kill for him.
When Morphey said no, Drew Peterson allegedly asked, "Could you live with knowing about it?"
Morphey told the newspaper that he responded, "Yeah, I guess," adding that he always figured Peterson had killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
Savio's death in a bathtub was ruled a homicide after initially being deemed accidental. Savio's body was exhumed and re-examined after Stacy Peterson vanished.
Morphey told the Herald News that the night after meeting Peterson in the park, he met up with Peterson, who enlisted his help with the blue barrel.
Morphey was offered immunity by police to tell them what happened that night, but has yet to tell it to a grand jury, he said.

Drew Peterson to Be Sued by Slain Third Wife's Family Tuesday, April 21, 2009
The family of Drew Peterson's third wife plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the former police officer, their attorney said.
Martin Glink, the lawyer for Kathleen Savio's father and sister, told The Herald News that the suit claims Peterson and Savio clashed a number of times during their bitter divorce and Peterson entered Savio's home on two occasions against her will.
Glink said he expected to file the litigation on Monday, according to the newspaper. There was no immediate word on whether the lawsuit was brought as scheduled.
Savio was found dead in a dry bathtub in 2004, initially believed to be the victim of an accidental drowning. After Peterson's fourth wife Stacy Peterson disappeared in October 2007, Savio's body was exhumed for another autopsy. Her death was reclassified as a homicide.
Peterson has not been charged in either Stacy Peterson's disappearance or in Savio's death and has denied wrongdoing. Authorities have said he is the focus of their investigation in both cases.
Last month, the ex-Bolingbrook police sergeant announced he would take his fight to regain control of Savio's estate to the Illinois Supreme Court.

Body pulled from Ill. river near homes of missing Stacy Peterson, Lisa Stebic May 21, 2009
CHANNAHON, Ill. - Illinois state police are searching a river and the area around it where a badly decomposed body was pulled from the water.
The area is in Will County, home to two missing women whose disappearances have drawn national media attention.
The body was found Wednesday by a cleaning crew. It was unclear if it was a woman's, and an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
Will County was home to Stacy Peterson and Lisa Stebic. Peterson's husband, Drew Peterson, has pleaded not guilty to murdering his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He claims Stacy Peterson left him for another man in October 2007.
Authorities deemed Stebic's husband a "person of interest" in her 2007 disappearance. He denies wrongdoing.

Remains found in river not Stacy Peterson, Lisa Stebic The human remains discovered May 20 in the Des Plaines River were identified by authorities today as that of a male, ruling out speculation they could be those of missing Will County women Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic.
CHANNAHON, Ill. - The human remains discovered May 20 in the Des Plaines River were identified by authorities today as that of a male, ruling out speculation they could be those of missing Will County women Stacy Peterson or Lisa Stebic.
DNA testing by the Illinois State Police Forensic Crime Lab determined that the partial skeletal remains were that of an unidentified male, and authorities said an investigation is underway to find the identity of the person.
The remains, which consisted of a rib cage, spinal column, and partial left and right femur bones, were found by a clean-up crew working along the river near Channahon just west of Interstate Highway 55.
A preliminary autopsy performed last week could not determine whether the body was that of a man or woman, its race, or identity.
The remains included shreds of jeans containing a small amount of money, which a source said was about $20.
On Saturday, Illinois State Police found two more bones not far from where the body was discovered near Big Basin Marina. Those remains are with an anthropologist for evaluation, said State Police Sgt. Tom Burek. He declined to comment further.
Peterson vanished from her Bolingbrook home in October 2007, and Stebic disappeared from her Plainfield home in April 2007. Both lived not far from where the remains were found.
"I think we left ourselves open to this possibility. We're disappointed," Pam Bosco, a spokeswoman for Peterson's family, said today. "But we're still moving forward, doing the searches, doing the investigation. We're continuing. We're still hopeful that eventually we'll find Stacy."
Peterson's husband, Drew Peterson, is a suspect in her disappearance. The former Bolingbrook police sergeant is in jail on murder charges in the 2004 death of his previous wife, Kathleen Savio. Plainfield police have named Craig Stebic a "person of interest" in his wife's case. Both men deny any wrongdoing.

2 year since Peterson's disappearance
Oct. 29, 2009
honor of missing Bolingbrook mother Stacy Peterson has been stolen from the Bolingbrook Aquatic Center. Police also say a plant placed near the plaque is also gone. It was two years ago on Thursday that Stacy Peterson was reported missing. Meantime, her husband, Drew Peterson, was back in court on Thursday in connection with the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
A judge decided a hearing will be held in January over evidence to be allowed in Peterson's trial under a new hearsay law. An actual trial date has not been set.
