Police search wooded area near bar for missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux Apr. 18,2012 Investigators are scouring a wooded area surrounding a North Carolina bar for any sign of a missing Fort Bragg soldier, police told FoxNews.com. Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, a 23-year-old combat medic with the 44th Medical Brigade, was last seen early Saturday leaving the Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville. Fayetteville police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said Wednesday that it is "way out of character" for Bordeaux to go missing. "She's not the type of person to go AWOL," MacRoberts told FoxNews.com. "When someone disappears like this, it's usually not a good sign." MacRoberts said Bordeaux's cell phone last "pinged" off a tower near the bar, prompting a search of the area Wednesday. Investigators said previously that they had received leads indicating that Bordeaux "may be in danger." Fort Bragg officials reported her missing on Monday. Authorities said she was last seen leaving the bar at around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. MacRoberts would not comment on whether Bordeaux was with anyone at the time of her disappearance. He would also not say if Bordeaux had a vehicle. The woman's sister, Olivia Cox, told WRAL-TV that Bordeaux's husband, Mike, was "holding up the best he can." The station reported that Mike Bordeaux did not accompany his wife to the bar Friday night and was cooperating with the investigation. Family members reportedly traveled from Florida on Tuesday to assist in the search for Bordeaux, who joined the military in April 2011 and arrived at Fort Bragg last November. Bordeaux, who has blond hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, police said. She is described as 5-foot-1, weighing 102 pounds. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is being urged to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477). www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/18/out-character-for-fort-bragg-soldier-kelli-bordeaux-to-go-missing-sister-says/Attachments:

Police question sex offender in search for missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux Apr. 19,2012 North Carolina police are questioning a registered sex offender in their search for a missing Fort Bragg soldier last seen leaving a local bar. Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, a 23-year-old combat medic with the 44th Medical Brigade, disappeared early Saturday after leaving the Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville. On Wednesday, authorities interviewed 25-year-old Nicholas Holbert, a registered sex offender who works at the bar and who said he drove Bordeaux home the night she disappeared. "Mr. Holbert is one of the last persons that had contact with Mrs. Bordeaux," Fayetteville police chief Chief Tom Bergamine told reporters. "Anybody that last saw her on the early morning of Saturday is someone we want to talk to." Holbert has reportedly denied any involvement in the woman's disappearance, telling WTVD-TV that he dropped Bordeaux off at the entrance of her neighborhood at her request. "As soon as you drive into the entrance to Meadowbrook, she said stop right here," Holbert told the station. “So I stopped and she said, ‘I’ll walk home.’ I said, ‘Are you sure?’ She said, ‘Yeah.’ I said I figured she didn’t want me to know where she lived, or somebody was there and she didn’t want to be seen together." Holbert, who was convicted in 2003 of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old child, told the station he was being unfairly targeted because of his criminal record. A police spokesman, however, told FoxNews.com Thursday that Holbert has not been named a "person of interest" in the case. "This is still a missing person investigation and we are interviewing people who saw Kelli last," Fayetteville police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said. Fort Bragg officials reported Bordeaux missing on Monday. Authorities said she was last seen leaving the bar at around 1:20 a.m. Saturday. Investigators searched a wooded area surrounding the bar as well as a pond about 8 miles away on Wednesday. They were also collecting surveillance video from businesses near the bar. MacRoberts said that it is "way out of character" for the woman to go missing. "She's not the type of person to go AWOL," he told FoxNews.com. "When someone disappears like this, it's usually not a good sign." MacRoberts said Bordeaux's cellphone last "pinged" off a tower near the bar. The woman's sister, Olivia Cox, told WRAL-TV that Bordeaux's civilian husband, Mike, was "holding up the best he can." The station reported that Mike Bordeaux was out of town on the night his wife disappeared and was cooperating with the investigation. Authorities have "no reason to doubt anything he's telling us at this time," Bergamine told the station. Family members traveled from Florida on Tuesday to assist in the search for Bordeaux, who joined the military in April 2011 and arrived at Fort Bragg last November. Bordeaux, who has blond hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, police said. She is described as 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 102 pounds. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is being urged to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477). www.foxnews.com/us/2012/04/19/police-question-person-interest-in-search-for-missing-fort-bragg-soldier-kelli/

April 24, 2012 Kelli Bordeaux Update: Owner of bar where missing soldier was last seen arrested (CBS) FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Steven Cantrell, the owner of Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville where missing Fort Bragg soldier Kelli Bordeaux was last seen, was arrested Monday on unrelated charges. Pictures: Missing N.C. soldier CBS affiliate WRAL reports that according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Cantrell, 49, was arrested on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on a driving while impaired charge in 2001. FBI agents also had warrants for Cantrell's arrest in Boston for failing to pay $400,000 in child support payments to three different women, sheriff's officials said. Authorities said Cantrell paid a $500 bond for the charges Monday and was being held on a detainer out of Boston. His bar, Froggy Bottoms, is the last place Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux was seen on April 14. Fort Bragg officials reported her missing to police two days after she failed to report for duty. Fayetteville police have questioned those who may have seen her at Froggy Bottoms bar while her family has made several pleas for information. A man who told police he had given Bordeaux a ride home from the bar was arrested Friday on a charge that he failed to provide his new address to authorities because he is a registered sex offender. Police haven't said whether that man, Nicholas Holbert, is a person of interest in her disappearance. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials say they are treating Bordeaux's disappearance as an active missing person's case, but added that they have "grave concerns" about her well-being. Bordeaux is assigned as a health service specialist with the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade. She has blond hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, police said. She is described as 5-foot-1, weighing 102 pounds. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is being urged to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477). www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-57419760-504083/kelli-bordeaux-update-owner-of-bar-where-missing-soldier-was-last-seen-arrested/

Remains found near Fort Bragg are not human, authorities say Nov. 20,2012 Remains found Tuesday in a training area of Fort Bragg are not human, an Army spokesman told FoxNews.com. A forensic pathologist examined the remains Wednesday morning and determined that they belonged to an animal. "The remains found on Fort Bragg are not human remains, but an animal," Christopher Grey, public affairs chief for the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, told FoxNews.com Wednesday. The discovery Tuesday came seven months after Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, a 23-year-old combat medic stationed at Fort Bragg, disappeared after leaving a Fayetteville bar. Bordeaux, originally from St. Cloud, Fla., was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville around 1:20 a.m. on April 14, according to law enforcement. The woman's husband, a civilian, was visiting family in Florida at the time, and Bordeaux had spent the night singing karaoke and drinking with friends at the hangout. More than seven months later, Bordeaux is still missing and no suspects have been charged in the case. Her family, desperate for answers, is pleading with the public to come forward with any tips in the case. "I know it's scary to do the right thing, especially if you know a hard truth, but you can't imagine how difficult it is for my family," the woman's older sister, Olivia Cox, said in an interview Monday. "Her birthday is a month away and she's not here. She's not going to be here for Thanksgiving." Nicholas Holbert, a 25-year-old "bar hand" who is also a registered sex offender, told police he drove Bordeaux home to her apartment complex less than a mile away. He denied any involvement in the woman's disappearance, claiming Bordeaux asked to be dropped off at the entrance of her neighborhood. She was never seen or heard from again. Holbert, who was living in a tent-like structure behind the bar, has since been arrested on unrelated charges. He was taken into police custody in April for failing to register as a sex offender at his new address in Cumberland County, N.C., Holbert, who was convicted in 2003 at age 16 of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old child, had told media outlets he was being unfairly targeted in the Bordeaux case because of his criminal record. Cox told FoxNews.com that her sister sent her a text message early on April 14, saying she was leaving the bar. Cox got another message 40 minutes later from Bordeaux's phone that read "got home safely." "Her apartment is .8 of a mile from that bar," Cox said. "It shouldn't have taken her 40 minutes to get home." Bordeaux, who has blond hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a pink tank top and black shorts, police said. She is described as 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 102 pounds. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is being urged to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477). www.foxnews.com/us/2012/11/21/remains-found-near-fort-bragg-raise-question-if-could-be-missing-soldier/

$25G reward offered for information leading to missing soldier Kelli Bordeaux Published March 23, 2013 Nearly one year since a 23-year-old Fort Bragg soldier disappeared from a North Carolina bar, authorities announced Friday that a $25,000 reward is being offered for information about the case. Pfc. Kelli Bordeaux, a combat medic with the 44th Medical Brigade, disappeared April 14 after leaving Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville around 1:20 a.m. No suspects have been named in the case. The woman's husband, a civilian, was visiting family in Florida at the time, and Bordeaux had spent the night singing karaoke and drinking with friends at the hangout. Nicholas Holbert, a 25-year-old "bar hand" who is also a convicted sex offender, told police he drove Bordeaux home to her apartment complex less than a mile away. He denied any involvement in the woman's disappearance, claiming Bordeaux asked to be dropped off at the entrance of her neighborhood. She was never seen or heard from again. Her cellphone pinged off a tower close to the bar before its battery died, investigators. But searches for the phone around the tower have come up empty. Holbert was later arrested for failure to register as a sex offender at his new address in Cumberland County, N.C. He was convicted in 2003 at age 16 of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old child. Bordeaux was last seen wearing a pink tube top, black shorts and a pair of flip-flops that investigators have described as "bedazzled." She is 5 feet, 1 inch tall, 105 pounds and has blonde hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on the case is being urged to contact authorities at 910-396-8777 or 910-396-0392. www.foxnews.com/us/2013/03/23/25g-reward-offered-for-information-leading-to-missing-soldier-kelli-bordeaux/?test=latestnews
